Save a picture as a transparent .gif file

1. On the File menu, click Save for Use In.
   
   
2. Do one of the following:
   • Click On the Web to save the picture in its actual size, and then click Next.

     OR

   • Click On the Web as a thumbnail to save a 96 by 96 pixel version, and then click Next.
3. Click Let the Web page background show through, and then click Next.
   
   
4. Select the type of background on the Web page or document you’ll add this picture to:
   • For solid backgrounds, click My Web page’s background is the following solid color. Then choose the background color. Learn how to select a different color.
     
     
   • For tiled or patterned backgrounds, click My Web page’s background is a tiled image.

     Then click Next.

5. Click Save. The Save for Use In dialog box appears so that you can specify a name and location for this file.
